Four Decades of Excellence and Experience

After 30+ years of insurance defense work, primarily in injury and defect claims, I blended my practice by contracting for work with Kate Warner and her firm KWCL. I still defend contractors in lawsuits and administrative actions, as well as write their contracts and offer business advice. I also now represent property and business owners wronged by contractors and/or insurance companies. I am privileged to be selective about my cases, taking only excellent claims for people I like.

The past seven years has brought me deep satisfaction representing real people. I enjoy utilizing the litigation skills I have developed over 36 years to help people who have been hurt by others or who find themselves at the mercy of the insurance industry or the legal system. I often represent policyholders against the same insurance companies I worked for over four decades. That experience gives me an insider’s understanding of how insurers operate and how to hold them accountable.

I find the most satisfaction in bringing parties together to resolve disputes before they become costly trials. My work the past 15 years as a settlement judge for multiple Superior Courts around the Bay Area has been rewarding both personally and professionally. My decades of experience on both sides of disputes gives me unique insights, but more importantly, a keen sense of why disputes are best handled before the expense and uncertainty of a trial.

While most of my work these days is still as a contract construction attorney for KWCL, I offer legal and mediation services outside KWCL, especially in the insurance, personal injury, and construction arenas.

My experience on both sides of the aisle lends me credibility as a special master and discovery referee. If you are counsel involved in a complex or disputed matter that requires a discovery referee, I offer neutral case management/discovery services.
